OCEAN AND WEATHER CONDITIONS
These tours are an open ocean adventure activity (approx 9–10 hours and 40km offshore) and conditions can range from calm seas to 15–20 knot winds/2–2.5m swells. Tours may be cancelled for adverse weather, though we usually go if raining. Stronger winds often mean excellent seabird activity.———————————
WHO THE TOURS ARE SUITABLE FOR
You’ll be on a boat for the duration of the activity so you MUST be stable on your feet and able to move around the boat unassisted. The boat is an unstable, moving platform (whether travelling or stopped) and may make sudden movements. Decks and hatches may be slippery. These tours aren’t suitable if you have: serious back/neck problems • heart conditions • recent surgery • stability/mobility issues • are pregnant • children under 10 • wheelchair users.
Please disclose any medical conditions, allergies, or mobility issues when booking – We travel well offshore so it's important for us to know – bring along any necessary medication.
Failure to disclose any of the above may result in refusal to board (with no refund). This is for the safety and enjoyment of all participants.
Anyone under the influence of alcohol/drugs will be refused boarding (with no refund).
———————————
SEASICKNESS
Ensure you take seasickness medication before departure as we don’t cut tours short if someone’s seasick. Even if you’ve never been seasick, you can’t assume you won’t be, and it’d be a shame to spend your day feeling ill. Take medication well before departure (some need taken the night before) – most are ineffective if taken when out. A good night’s sleep and avoiding alcohol also help. Seasickness is not grounds for refund.———————————
CHILDREN ONBOARD
Children must be 10 years+ and be accompanied, and actively supervised, by an adult. Youth 16 years + may come alone. With prior approval younger children with boating experience may be considered. When booking include your child’s age – if you don’t let us know we refuse boarding (with no refund).———————————
SEABIRD SPECIES SEEN ON THE DAY
We make every effort to locate as many seabird species as possible, but sightings vary each day and can be impacted by weather/ocean conditions. No species can be guaranteed.———————————
EQUIPMENT YOU BRING ONBOARD
You are responsible for your belongings, including cameras and binoculars, for the entirety of the tour. There can be sea spray/splashes and rain. There’s a limit of one bag each. No tripods, scopes, or drones are permitted onboard.———————————
CANCELLATION & REFUND POLICY
If you cancel your booking:
– More than 45 days prior: Either a tour credit, or refund (less NZ$25 cancellation fee).
– Within 45 days: No credit or refund – UNLESS we cancel the tour, or fill your spot, in which case you receive either a tour credit, or refund (less NZ$25 cancellation fee).If we cancel:
We reserve the right to cancel any tour due to adverse conditions, insufficient bookings, or any other reason whatsoever. In this case you receive either a tour credit, or refund.Note: Refunds are in $NZD (exchange rates at time of refund may mean amount refunded differs from the original payment) • No refund if you miss the boat. • In no event will our liability exceed the amount you paid to us for the tour.
———————————
MINIMUM NUMBERS
Tours require a minimum 7 participants. If the minimum isn’t met, we’ll notify you 1–2 weeks before. In some cases, we may look to run the tour with additional per-person costs. If this isn’t possible, the tour will be cancelled and a tour credit, or refund given.———————————
ALTERNATIVE OPTIONS IF TOUR IS CANCELLED
If we cancel a tour due to adverse conditions, we may offer a closer-to-shore tour option on the same day, to an area less affected. It offers the opportunity to still experience some seabirds though we’ll likely encounter fewer species as some prefer deeper waters (ie NZ Storm Petrel). If conditions are unsuitable for any options on the tour date we may try to reschedule to the day before or after. This is subject to boat availability and ocean/weather conditions and isn’t always feasible.
To make a closer-to-shore, or rescheduled tour feasible all participants must agree to doing it, or, if only some participants agree then additional per-person costs will apply.
If neither the closer-to-shore or rescheduled tour are feasible, the tour will be cancelled and either a tour credit, or refund given.
